What is hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a very natural yet powerful technique of focused relaxation that can allow you to take control of your life and build a brighter, more positive future. This state of increased awareness bypasses the conscious or critical part of the mind and allows you to reach the subconscious aspect of the mind, in which all of your memories and experiences are stored. This enables the subconscious mind to be receptive to positive suggestions and make deep and lasting changes in a behavior, thought, or feeling. Your specific problem is addressed and resolved as your body and your conscious and subconscious mind work harmoniously to improve physical, psychological and emotional health, and to eliminate any negative habits. It helps you to resolve inner blockages, and gently flow through the process of change and recovery.

Traditional methods such as psychiatry and psychology do work, but the difference is the brief amount of time that it takes to accomplish changes in habits, behavior and health through the use of hypnosis. It is a client-centered process, in which the specific issues of the individual are addressed based on their particular needs, problems, goals, motivations, and triggers. By opening the channels of communication between the conscious and subconscious minds, a hypnotherapist can help you to make the positive and dramatic improvements to your life. Hypnotherapists are not licensed healing arts practitioners. Some conditions may require medical or psychological referrals.

 

What does it feel like to be hypnotized?

Hypnosis is similar to daydreaming. If you have ever just drifted off into your thoughts or experienced meditation, you have felt something similar to the state of hypnosis. Think of hypnosis as a well deserved vacation, a guided visualization of your inner thoughts and feelings. People often say they feel very relaxed, comfortable and rested after experiencing hypnosis thus leading to the positive changes they wanted. Hypnosis reaches and deals with problems of the mind and body, using a form of relaxation in which critical factors of the conscious mind are set aside allowing the subconscious mind to be receptive to positive suggestions from the therapist. There are a series of repeated instructions to allow you to attain a deep state of relaxation.

As you become more deeply relaxed the conscious mind is less active and the subconscious mind is free to explore psychological or emotional issues and to accept a series of positive suggestions that allow the subconscious mind to become stronger and more effective in dealing with whatever problem or negative behavior the client is experiencing or wants to change or eliminate. The changes begin almost immediately because, through the increased strength and focus of your subconscious mind you are in control, and aware of the positive aspects that your changes in behavior will provide. The suggestions used during the session are based on your individual, specific needs and goals.  It is a way of using yourself to heal yourself!
